On April 9th 2011 Sarah Sandle and Stephanie Nokes will be walking the Great Wall of China, in support of The Breast Cancer Campaign.

The company organising this trip for us is called Charity Challenge. Ever since Charity Challenge was formed, the Great Wall Discovery has been one of the most popular challenges. The challenge starts in Jinshanling with a vigorous and challenging trek involving climbing thousands of steps that loops along the mountains either side of the Gubeikou Gateway. Each day we will trek approximately 12kms along the stony path, twisting and winding its way along the mountains, interspersed with crumbling watchtowers.

It is demanding but also very rewarding, particularly on a clear day when you can look at the vast and beautiful mountain ranges

They have both known and lost friends to this disease, and feel this is a worthwhile charity to support. The statistics of breast cancer in this area are very high, but research continues to show it doesn’t always result in the loss of life.

The expedition itself will present quite a challenge, but the greater challenge at this time is to raise the required sponsorship.

Between them they are expected to raise in excess of £5000. This will take the form of street collections, car boot sales and a social evening in October (email sa.nokes@ntlworld.com)

Already they have been amazed at people’s generosity, having raised £2000 with their first three ventures. They feel well on the way to raising the required amount.
